MOTS-c 10mg is 10mg of MOTS-c, a mitochondrial peptide, supplied as freeze-dried powder in a sealed vial.
In stock at $49.00. Free worldwide shipping. For laboratory research use only.
Our MOTS-c 10mg vial holds 10mg of lyophilized MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide. It’s sold for laboratory research only.
The 10mg vial is the small size. For longer studies, MOTS-c 40mg costs less per milligram.
About MOTS-c
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide coded not in the cell nucleus but in mitochondrial DNA, inside the gene for the 12S ribosomal RNA. Changhan Lee and colleagues in Pinchas Cohen’s lab at the University of Southern California described it in 2015.
It belongs to a small group of mitochondrial-derived peptides, alongside humanin, that act as signals from the mitochondria to the rest of the cell and body.
How MOTS-c acts in the lab
Most proteins are coded in the cell nucleus. MOTS-c is one of a handful of peptides coded in mitochondrial DNA instead. Its main target looks like the folate cycle, which feeds into AMPK activation and better glucose handling in muscle.
Under stress it can move into the nucleus and change gene expression. Circulating levels drop with age in both mice and people, which is why it’s studied in metabolism and aging.

MOTS-c research
The 2015 Cell Metabolism paper reported that MOTS-c prevented diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in mice, working mainly through skeletal muscle.
Reynolds and colleagues reported in Nature Communications in 2021 that exercise raises MOTS-c levels in people, and that treating older mice with it improved their physical performance.
The primary literature is on PubMed, run by the US National Library of Medicine. Here’s a search for MOTS-c studies to start from.
How MOTS-c compares
Labs choosing MOTS-c 10mg usually weigh it against a few close relatives. MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide coded in mitochondrial DNA, studied for glucose use in muscle, while:
- AOD-9604 is hGH fragment 177-191 with an extra tyrosine, studied for fat breakdown without raising IGF-1
- 5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule that blocks the enzyme NNMT inside fat cells
These are all studied for fat metabolism but act in different places: AOD-9604 and Fragment 176-191 on fat tissue from outside, 5-Amino-1MQ and MOTS-c from inside the cell. See them all on our weight loss peptides page.
MOTS-c 10mg reconstitution and concentration
Here’s the math for 10mg of powder:
- 1mL of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/mL
- 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/mL
- 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 3.33mg/mL
Go with whichever number is easiest to work with in your protocol, and label the vial with the concentration and the date you mixed it.
Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice, and acetic acid helps with peptides that won’t dissolve in water alone. Add it slowly so it runs down the side of the vial, then swirl or roll until everything dissolves. Shaking can shear peptide chains. Skip it.
Storing MOTS-c 10mg
Freeze-dried MOTS-c 10mg handles room temperature fine during shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within about four weeks.
Running several vials at once? Our 10 vial kit case holds up to ten vials upright in separate wells under a clear lid, which keeps a fridge shelf tidy and the labels easy to read.
MOTS-c 10mg quality and handling
The vial label shows the compound and the amount. For anything your lab needs on file beyond that, email Peptira support with the product name before you place the order.
If you verify incoming material yourself, the standard methods are HPLC for purity and mass spectrometry for identity. HPLC splits the sample and reports the main peak as a percentage, while mass spec confirms that peak has the right molecular weight.
Write the order date and the vial details into your lab notes. If a result looks odd later, you can tie it back to the exact material you used.
MOTS-c sizes compared
- MOTS-c 10mg (this page): $49.00, about $4.90 per mg
- MOTS-c 40mg: $139.00, about $3.48 per mg
MOTS-c 10mg is the smallest size. It’s the one to start with for a pilot run or when you’re testing a new protocol.
