Our VIP 10mg vial holds 10mg of lyophilized VIP, a neuropeptide. It’s intended for lab research only.

VIP at a glance

Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide found in the gut, brain and immune system. It relaxes smooth muscle, widens blood vessels and has anti-inflammatory effects.

It belongs to the glucagon/secretin family.

VIP mechanism of action

VIP works through two receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2, which raise cyclic AMP inside cells. In smooth muscle that means relaxation, so blood vessels widen and the gut and airways loosen.

On immune cells, VIP turns down inflammatory cytokines like TNF-alpha and IL-6 and pushes T cells toward a regulatory profile. That’s the basis for its study in arthritis, lung and gut inflammation.

VIP research

VIP was first isolated by Said and Mutt in 1970. Delgado and colleagues later reported it reduced inflammation in mouse arthritis models.

An inhaled form, aviptadil, has been tested in lung disease.

VIP 10mg vs related compounds

Labs choosing VIP 10mg usually weigh it against a few close relatives. VIP is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide that relaxes smooth muscle and calms immune cells, while:

  • Thymosin Alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid thymic peptide, approved in several countries as thymalfasin
  • Thymalin is a calf-thymus peptide complex from Khavinson’s program, registered in Russia as an immune medicine
  • LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin, an antimicrobial peptide that also signals in wound repair

These are all studied in immune research, but at different points: the thymus peptides on T-cell maturation and signaling, LL-37 on direct antimicrobial action and VIP on calming inflammation. See them all on our immune peptides page.

VIP 10mg quality notes

Every VIP 10mg vial carries a printed label with the compound name and amount, so you always know what you’re holding. If your lab needs batch paperwork for its records, contact Peptira support before you order and ask what’s available for the current batch.

Labs that check material in-house normally confirm identity with mass spectrometry, which checks the molecular weight, and measure purity with HPLC, which separates the main compound from anything else in the sample.

Write the order date and the vial details into your lab notes. If a result looks odd later, you can tie it back to the exact material you used.

How to reconstitute VIP 10mg

Concentration is the amount in the vial divided by the volume of water you add. With 10mg of powder in this vial:

  • 1mL of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/mL
  • 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/mL
  • 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 3.33mg/mL

Choose the volume that suits your measurements. Mark the vial with the concentration and date so nobody has to guess later.

Use sterile bacteriostatic water, like our bacteriostatic water. Let the vial reach room temperature, run the water slowly down the inside of the glass, then roll the vial gently until the powder dissolves. Don’t shake it. Shaking can shear peptide chains.

Storing VIP 10mg

Freeze-dried VIP 10mg handles room temperature fine during shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within about four weeks.

Let a frozen vial warm up to room temperature before you open it. Cold glass pulls moisture out of the air, and moisture is what degrades dry peptide.

How many VIP 10mg vials do you need?

Start from the protocol. Total the amount every arm needs from the first time point to the last, divide by the 10mg in a vial and add a spare. It’s cheaper to order once than to wait on a second shipment halfway through.

Mix one vial at a time and keep the rest sealed in the freezer. Dry powder keeps far longer than solution, so there’s no reason to reconstitute everything at the start.

Keep vials from one batch together in a study where you can. The batch number on the label ties each result back to the lab paperwork.
